Anita Keller grew up near Chicago, Illinois. She developed an interest in disability sports and other disability issues through her youngest brother, who was born with congenital disabilities. She has completed degrees in biology and African studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master’s degree in African studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her past international work experience includes developing a paralympic program for Rwandese refugees in Tanzania, teaching in South Korea and working with American high school students and local NGO’s on small-scale development projects in Kenya. She has also taught high school, resettled refugees, and developed educational programming and teacher trainings for a children’s museum, all in North Carolina.
Anita came to VFA in February 2003 to start a new Sports for Life program in Angola. She has fast fallen in love with the people (and beaches!) of Angola and looks forward to developing a long-lasting disability sport program there.
