Combat trauma is taking a deep and deadly toll on our troops — the men and women who are our mothers, fathers, neighbors and friends who serve us all in war, regardless of the politics. Suicides are rising, and we must do something. Sadly, because of ignorance, disregard and even sometimes malice, the stigma preventing treatment persists. Meanwhile, depression persists for too many our veterans. And drug use of all kinds persists among our troops. They areĀ wounded and need help. They need help for their bodies and their minds to be healthy again.

When our troops deploy, the burdens remain on the military families at home. Helping our military families with financial problems while one member is deployed can help. Housing help would address some serious needs in our military community — call it “Homes for Heroes.”

Iraqi voters go to the polls on July 30 and could decide to evict the US in 2010.

Too many private colleges in the US have refused to enter into “Yellow Ribbon agreements” under the new GI Bill that would make these schools more affordable to at least some veterans of the wars Iraq and Afghanistan.

With the help of VFA and others, Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-NJ, announced that more than $534 million is available for stop-loss bonuses in the supplemental military funding bill.
