Chris Scheuerman’s son committed suicide in his barracks in Iraq in 2005, not long after the unlicensed psychologist sent to Iraq by the Pentagon diagnosed Pfc. Jason Scheuerman as “capable of claiming mental illness” in order to manipulate superiors and get his way. Apparently, the Army’s own regulations permit unlicensed psychologists to treat our suffering troops; Defense Department rules require “doctoral level” health care providers. “Any reasonable person would know that the worst place to train a psychologist would be in a combat environment,” said Chris Scheuerman, after hearing the Army Inspector General found no regulations were broken in the case of the 20-year-old soldier who took his own life. 

Sadly, mental illness is a growing problem for our troops.
