The stress of continuous deployments, too little rest and not enough care has created the Army’s most pressing battle: combating suicide in the ranks. Not helping to ease our troops’ painful stress: a possible “pattern of misconduct” in the disability review process for our combat-injured troops. Why must our troops return from battle to face more battles?

Our National Guard is reaping the spoils of a grim economy: more recruits than it can handle. On a related note: the Army is slashing bonuses in its 2010 budget. 

First Lady Michelle Obama vows more support for military spouses and families. Military spouses and families can use all the support we can provide — they “stand by” for our troops, after all. 

The stronger and rebuilt Iraqi security forces are still impaired by manpower and equipment shortages, political entanglements and blatant security breaches. The deployments of US troops to Iraq continue. Defense Secretary Robert Gates visits troops in Afghanistan, says troop needs come first.
