For those who have yet to realize how heavy the burden of deployments, war and sacrifice fall on our military families, consider 6-year-old Jase Spargur. Jase accepted his dad’s Silver Star this week, because his dad died nearly a year ago in Afghanistan. The nation has been “asking a lot of you.” The stress is widespread and dire. Untreated, our troops are at risk for taking their own lives after they’ve left the battlefield. More than workshops for our military families are needed, we need to do more than talk to our returning troops. The health, welfare and morale of our military community should be a top concern for every citizen - and we’ll soon hear from members of our military on the matter.

The training of Afghan forces continues. Unfortunately, there are plenty of locals who have no love for American troops. Next door, stabilizing Pakistan is an objective unto itself. Unfortunately, Pakistan’s military officials still tend to view India as the enemy, not the Taliban. And it’s still deadly for our troops in Iraq. But the surge in violence in Iraq won’t delay the US withdrawal, Obama Administration officials say, even if Iraqi security is deemed too lax.

Deployments of our National Guard to war continue, continue, continue

The VA and the new GI Bill…The VA and the DoD, working together to make life easier for our troops and veterans?

Some care coordination for seriously injured veterans is improving, officials tell a Congressional subcommittee.

Spending money at the Pentagon by paying attention to what works and what doesn’t?
