VFA To Release Preliminary Findings on Alaska National Guard Tomorrow

VFA has been on the ground in Alaska researching the effects of deployments of their National Guard on local communities and Guard families, and the readjustment of National Guard members upon their return home from war. Our National Guard is bearing an incredible share of the burden of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Alaska is no exception. We will be releasing our preliminary findings tomorrow.

When the presidential candidates met Friday for their first debate, each spoke about their commitment to the military — but avoided talking about the dire situation now facing our National Guard, which has shipped off more than 660,000 members to sustain deployment policy in the last seven years. It is impossible to speak directly to the strained state of our military without acknowledging the overwhelming burdens on our citizen-Soldiers posed by current deployment policy.

Veterans for America Asks to Intervene in Federal Suit Seeking Restraining Order

WASHINGTON, DC – Veterans for America, a non-partisan national advocacy and humanitarian group representing the interests of servicemembers and veterans, today will ask a federal judge in Ohio for permission to intervene in an 11th-hour lawsuit that threatens to disrupt the voting process and potentially invalidate thousands of votes already cast, and yet to be cast, by veterans and deployed military personnel.
