The issues of psychological wounds and multiple deployments don’t just affect soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen, but their families as well. Sixty percent of US servicemembers deployed today have family responsibilities.  Over 160,000 women have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, 16,000 of whom are single mothers.  Thirty-one percent of married soldiers deployed for more than six months will have problems with their marriages.

The Los Angeles Times examines the toll the deployment cycle takes on military families.  Mental health care providers are donating an hour of their time to treat servicemembers and their families who, for one reason or another, can’t get help any other way.  Military chaplains counsel deployed servicemembers on issues affecting their family back home.
