12 months ‘not good enough,’ young captains tell Joint Chiefs chairman

Excerpt:

Whether it’s a lack of training time or enough time to keep a family intact, young Army officers have bluntly told the nation’s new top military officer that 12 months at home between deployments is not cutting it.

“During that year we’re back, it’s just not good enough,” one Army captain told Adm. Mike Mullen, the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, when Mullen visited students at the field artillery captains’ career course at Fort Sill, Okla., on Oct. 23. That was the initial stop on a whirlwind two-day trip, Mullen’s first visit to domestic installations since becoming chairman Oct. 1.
